This trip was one of many firsts, most of them involving being in social settings with lots of people. Auggie's first airplane ride landed us in sunny and warm Florida. He did great on the flight, making friends with another toddler in the row ahead of us. We stayed at a Hyatt resort where Chris's parents usually winter at. It has a bunch of pools, lazy river, access to a beach and the type of vibe that screams vacation. What we didn't realize was traveling with a child means that you never get a hold of that vacation vibe. Once we got over the fact that we weren't going to have lazy afternoons reading a book we started introducing Auggie to the wonders of Florida: Spring Break edition. Getting him used to water was a week long affair, but by the end it he seemed to genuinely like it. He had his own floaty car that we often used in the lazy river. He could float along by himself, and he enjoyed chewing on the rubber horn that he managed to take off the steering wheel. Other firsts for Auggie were eating out, taking a boat ride, touching sand, and having prolonged naked time. One of the days Chris's family friends Bill and Jenni came to visit from Tampa. It was so good catching up and having them get to see Auggie. It meant a lot having Al and Karen spend so much time with him, and they enjoyed every minute of it. The trip home did not go as smoothly as the one there. We were not assigned seats so we were the people holding up the plane for 30 minutes waiting for people to nicely change seats so we could all sit together (FAA policy says we can't be separated or sit in an exit row). That didn't really matter as there was a line 12 planes deep waiting to take off. Two hours passed sitting on the runway and we eventually returned to the terminal. Another four hours eating bad airport food and chasing a toddler around had us wondering if we had packed enough diapers. Thankfully we were able to get a plane out and we arrived home with a diaper and a few puffs to spare.
